Here DARPA goes again...

I just came across this article on Gizmag and I thought I would share it with y'all given the presentation Griffin and I gave on Argus-is earlier in the semester. As you can read in the article, DARPA is currently working on a navigation chip that defeats the limitations of a traditional GPS. We had an interesting debate about the pros and cons of Argus and I'm just curious to know your opinion on this technology. What are the implications? In my opinion, the article presents this chip in a positive light, but do you think it could be used negatively?

  1. I personally feel like this technology may be taking navigation assistance a bit too far. Like any technology, this can be easily abused--except the negative implications of abusing a highly accurate navigation system could be extreme. With the tragedy of the Boston Marathon headlining news articles yesterday and today, the first thing I thought of when I read this article is how technology like this could benefit people who are attempting to breach security. Obviously I haven't done extensive research on these new navigation developments, but the power that this technology has the potential of holding raised some red flags in my mind.
